Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, (EMDR), is a powerful new method of doing psychotherapy. When a disturbing event occurs, it can get locked in the brain with the original picture, sounds, thoughts, feelings and body sensations. EMDR seems to stimulate the information and allows the brain to reprocess the experience to a more adaptive and manageable level. The eye movements, tones, or tactile bilateral stimulation may help process the unconscious material. This therapeutic approach has been used successfully with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD) as well as many other issues.
