Carolyn Barker MSW, RSW has been working with individuals, couples and families facing a variety of challenges since 1993. She uses a multi-modal and strengths-based approach to facilitating children, adolescents and adults towards health and well-being. She has experience assisting clients with concerns such as trauma (e.g. abuse, car accidents), grief, anxiety, stress, depression, personal growth, self esteem, health, and relationship issues. Carolyn’s approach to clients is compassionate, respectful and empowering. She believes that wisdom, growth and healing emerges when someone is provided with a safe and affirming relationship in which to explore personal challenges. Prior to entering private practice, Carolyn worked with clients in a variety of settings including hospital, mental health, and not-for-profit agencies. She is a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Social Work. Carolyn has presented at a number of workshops and conferences on topics related to Clinical Social Work practice. She is an approved Clinical Supervisor by the Alberta College of Social Workers and has received an award for excellence in field instruction. Carolyn utilizes the following therapeutic approaches:
